Setting Up your Giveaway Page

Please use the following badge to advertise the giveaway on your site.

Or you may download the .psd file for the badge, which you can then drop onto an alternate color background or over an image/graphic you might want to use to promote the giveaway.
Please post this badge on the home page of your site, and link it directly to your giveaway page. The more obvious it is, the easier it will be for entrants to find your entry page. Please note this badge is only for official sponsors for the giveaway, and only the sites authorized to collect entries may display it. If you have a blog or other website and you’d like to promote the giveaway, please see the graphic banners available on the Buzz page.
Sponsor Link List
The main element of your giveaway page is a list of all the Indie Shop Sponsors. This is one of the most important parts of this giveaway, promoting a constant flow of traffic between sites. We don’t expect you to create this yourself, so we’ve created an easy html template for you to use. Simply copy and paste the entire code onto your giveaway page (if using an editor or wysiwyg of any sort, be sure you’re in ’source’ mode when you paste this in).
Entry Information
Your giveaway page also needs to have instructions for entering on your site (obviously!). This part will vary greatly from site to site, depending on how you decide to collect entries, but a few things remain consistent.
How should you collect entries?
This is up to you, though we do have some recommendations. You must collect certain information from all entrants, including their FULL name (first and last) and a valid email address. Entires without these requirements will not be entered into the giveaway. Mailing addresses are not required but encouraged, and should be part of your entry form. You may request additional information for your own purposes.
Ways to Collect Entries:
- Email Form. Probably the easiest and most effective way to collect entries. You can setup a simple html form that requests the name, email, and other information from the entrant, emailing it to you or storing the information in a text file.
- Mailing List. If you have a mailing list already setup (PhpList, for example, is a very effective tool for collecting entries) you may use it to collect and record entries into the giveaway. We suggest you create an additional list soley for the Happily Handmade Giveaway, and then keep track of the subscribers to that list as entries. You do have to be able to collect subscriber information, like the entrants name, for this option to be used.
- Direct Email. Probably the least effective, so only use this option if the other two absolutely won’t work for you. You can have entrants email you with their entry information. Make it very clear what information is required and where this information needs to be sent, including a “mailto” link if possible. Keep in mind not everyone uses a mail client that can read these links, and may not have the patience to copy the email address, login to their email client, and send the entry. This is the reason the other two options will get you more entries.
The Fine Print
Because of increasing issues with privacy, we do request you post the following statements immediately following your entry information (this text is included in the link list template above).

Entries are only accepted through the official Indie Shop Sponsors listed on this page. You may enter only once through each Indie Shop Sponsor. Visit all the Sponsors to increase your chances of winning.
Entries will be accepted from April 1 through May 13. Any entries received before or after these dates will not be entered into the giveaway. Winners will be selected and contacted on May 18, 2009.
All entries must contain your full name (first AND last) and a valid email address. Please make sure your email address is correct, and use an email address you check regularly. If you win, this is how we will contact you. If your email address bounces, or you do not respond within 72 hours, your prize will be immediately forfeited and a new winner will be selected. We highly recommend you add all of our Sponsors to your address book to avoid these emails being sent to spam. Mailing addresses are not required for entry but are encouraged.
International entrants: you are responsible for any applicable customs fees upon receiving your prize. Prizes will be marked as gifts, however we have no control over international customs regulations. We are not responsible for prizes lost in the mail or held up in customs indefinitely. Prize boxes are one of a kind, and unfortunately, if it is lost in transit, we can’t do anything about it.
Your privacy is important to us. Your personal information will not be sold or shared with outside parties. Sponsors may request you subscribe to their mailing list as a condition of entry into this giveaway, however you do have the option to opt-out of all future mailings at the end of the giveaway.
